7 Day Western Serengeti Wildebeests Migration May-july

Overview

Get a chance to visit one of the world’s famous Serengeti National Park whereby there is the largest population of wildlife, more than millions of wildebeest and Zebras migrating from place to place in a regular pattern on their pursuit for food. On this program, you will visit the western Serengeti where the great migrating herds attempt to cross the Grumeti river while the hungry crocodiles wait for their meal. It is the migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous.

Day by day

1

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ARUSHA

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) which caters for domestic flights, you will be met by Obag safari & Beach representative who will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha. overnight will be at the Ilboru Safari Lodge a Calm lodge located in the suburbs of the city with a natural set up with beautiful garden awaiting for your safari the following day.

2

DAY 2: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we depart for Tarangire National Park. The Park is named after the Tarangire River which runs through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the only source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. In places, the vegetation is quite dense, including elephant grass, acacia woodlands. The Park is well known for its elephant families, which can often be seen congregating by the river. You may also see giraffe, bushbuck and hartebeest. These animals are closely followed by a range of predators, including lions and leopards. There are more breeding species of birds found in Tarangire National Park than anywhere else on the planet. Tarangire is the best place to see these gentle giants in their natural habitat – from the adorable calves all the way up to the intimidating bulls. After lunch drive to Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner and overnight at Eileen’s Trees Inn.

3/4

DAY 3/4: KARATU TO WESTERN SERENGETI (GRUMETI) FOLLOWING THE GREAT MIGRATION

Early morning after breakfast, we depart to Western Serengeti. Around end of April, May and June, a vast army of wildebeests along with its partners: zebras, elands and gazelles mill around the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, south of the Grumeti River. Harassed behind by lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas and ahead by giant Nile crocodiles, many hundreds perish as some hazard the river crossing while others detour it. But the beauty of the landscape, stretching without end beneath an infinite sky on a Serengeti West Safari, changes something within the watcher, who becomes more aware of the place of humankind within the drama of the animal world.
After Lunch and an extensive game drive, we head for our Tented partner lodges for dinner and overnight.
You will spend 2 nights at Western corridor.

5

DAY 5: WESTERN SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS

Early morning after breakfast, we continue with our en-route drive inside the Serengeti before we depart to Ngorongoro. When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland and glistening lakes and swamps.
Arriving at our accommodation in the late evening, we will have our dinner and overnight stay at one of our carefully selected lodge.

6

DAY 6: NGORONGORO CRATER TO KARATU

After early breakfast, you will descend down the crater which is almost 600m deep. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. It is famous for both its geological delights and for being a natural reserve which is home to some of the densest large mammal populations in the whole of the African continent. The drive down the into the Crater is an adventure in itself and when you reach the Crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands.
After Lunch and an extensive game drive inside the crater, we head for our comfort partner lodges in Karatu for dinner and overnight.

7

DAY 7: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK TO ARUSHA

Early morning after breakfast, continue short drive to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing drives where you first encounter will be spotting large troupes of baboons. Lake Manyara National Park is a protected area in Tanzania’s Arusha and Manyara Regions, situated between Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley. Lake Manyara National Park boasts a spectacular array of diverse terrain as well as plant and animal species. Established specifically to protect the elephant herds that have made the area renowned, the park provides an amazing wildlife experience. Elephants are not the only animals that Lake Manyara is famous for. Tree climbing lions are occasionally sited. A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site. Late afternoon drive back to Arusha.

We felt always safe and secure. Pickup from the airport and transfer to was perfect. The guide (Gilbert) simply knows everything about the parks and the animals. Especially also about all sorts of birds. He loves his job and he is committed to preserving the beautiful nature of Tanzania. Obed and Gilbert also helped us with any special needs we had. For us this was the very first safari, but they helped us to overcome any fears we had. The jeep is a grand old lady, but perfect for safari. We enjoyed standing in the car, under the hood, safe from the sun, feeling the light breeze and watching for animals. The lodges we stayed in were spatious. beautiful, clean, served good food and helped us relax and prepare for the next day's adventures. We totally recommend!

We had two full days of game drives during which Obeg pointed out all of the game and birds in sight. We we’re able to see plenty of zebras, gnus, water buffaloes, antelope, lions, and birds. We really wanted to spot a leopard, but it was not to be. But we did get to see a python! We’d never seen on in the wild before. This guy was about six meters long.
Obeg was very kind, helpful and attentive the whole time. He also handled my husband’s walker in and out of the safari truck multiple times a day which wasn’t easy.

We were a group of friends that spent a few days with Obed on Safari in Mikumi National Park. Obed was very flexible and helpful at all times. He and the driver explained a lot of things on the tour and tried their best to make us see as many animals as possible. We also visited a Maasai Village and a local village.
We really enjoyed our days with Obed!
If we come back in Tanzania we will definitely contact you again!
Thank you so much for all Obed!

Obag African Safaris is the best of tour Company I saw in Tanzania . I really never see the Company like this. The Guide (Ngunda) is very good , enough experience and full of explainations about the bush .He is strong , chaming and caring person . Also he did what he promised before safari.
Am sure I payed less than I get . I saw all I wished to see , a lot of animals like Big group of Elephant and Lion as I wished.
I will not finish to explain about Obag but for sure this is my best Company and favourate in Tanzania .

What a great experience. We was looked after really well and all of our wants were met. Obed and Moody went the extra mile to make sure we were all happy all of the time. Obed has a lot of knowledge of the Safari and really understood the pace of the day. We went to Selous and Julius Nyerere National Park. Moody's driving skills were great and took us through the bumpy road as smooth as possible. We had a lot of laughs and gained a lot of knowledge with great people. Not only did we learn about Safari, we also learned about Tanzania culture and the way of life.
The river boat cruise along Rafiji River was timed perfectly for sun set. On the game drive we see way more animals than anticipated. We will definitely be using Obag Africa Safari again.

Wild safari was my dream!
First of all, I’d like to say that 2 days adventure is amazing. We saw many kinds of animals from a very close distance.
Secondly, Obed is a nice guy, who loves his job and he does everything for his guests to be satisfied. At the beginning we couldn’t see lions, but Obed did all his best to find them. Which adds him high points. I believe not all tour companies do it. Overall, he is very positive and helpful. We had not a nice experience with accommodation, but Obed was so kind to change it for us. We are very thankful!
In few words - this tour worths it’s money. I definitely recommend it.

We had a very nice 4-day safari with Obag Safaris. Obeg, our guide, picked us up at the cruise port in Dar es Salaam. We had contacted each other on WhatsApp which was good because we had some trouble finding each other at the port. My husband uses a very big sport walker, so we were glad that we were picked up in a van which was driven by the very capable Katcha (sp??). The Mikumi Lodge was about a 6-hour drive away, and we stopped for a pleasant lunch on the way. Mikumi Lodge isn’t as well-appointed as some that we’ve stayed in at Arusha and the Serengeti, but it was very clean and comfortable and staffed with the loveliest people.
