10 day Unique Safari + Cultural Experience Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Lake Eyasi, Arusha City

Overview

On this 10 day unique safari + cultural experience you will get a chance to visit the most incredible places in our beautiful country. These places will give you a unique touch of both cultural and safari experience of the flora and fauna present in Tanzania.

Day by day

1

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) which caters for domestic flights, you will be met by Obag safari & Beach representative who will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha. Overnight will be at your accommodation awaiting for your safari on the following day.

2

DAY 2: EXPLORING ARUSHA CITY + ALBINISM CENTRE

After early morning breakfast we will drive to one of the albinism centers in Arusha. People with albinism have serious vision issues—often they are considered legally blind. This factor has repercussions in education as their teachers often do not realize that their students with albinism are unable to see the blackboard well enough to keep up with other students. Classmates and teachers alike treat them with scorn as it is assumed that they are inherently stupid. Few people with albinism complete secondary school and even fewer have the opportunity to attend college or university.
After that we will visit one of the local markets and interact with the locals in Arusha before driving back to our hotel in Arusha for overnight.

3/4

DAY 3/4: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

You will be picked up by your private safari guide from your accommodation in Arusha to Tarangire which is almost 2.5 hours drive from Arusha. Tarangire is best known for its elephant families, savannah, iconic baobab trees, seasonal swamps and the life-giving Tarangire River. Animals gather at the river and giraffe, bushbuck and hartebeest are often seen. The Park is also home to buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. These animals are closely followed by a range of predators such as lions and leopards. From the open roof of the vehicle you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the wildlife. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, which includes a delicious lunch, coffee and soft drinks.
On Day 4 you will pass by one of the Maasai villages whereby you will get a chance to learn about their culture and customs.
You will spend 2 days in this incredible park.

5

DAY 5: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK TO LAKE EYASI

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This is a relatively small but diverse park, 120km west of Arusha. The park’s namesake is a shallow, salt lake. It covers a large area of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons and is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. On your exploration of the park you will see monkeys, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains, but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs.
After lunch and extensive game drive you will drive to your accommodation for dinner & overnight at Lake Eyasi.

6

DAY 6: LAKE EYASI ACTIVITIES

Lake Eyasi is a seasonal shallow endorheic salt lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley at the base of the Serengeti Plateau, just south of the Serengeti National Park and immediately southwest of the Ngorongoro Crater in the Crater Highlands of Tanzania. The lake is elongated, orientated southwest to northeast, and lies in the Eyasi-Wembere branch of the Great Rift Valley. The Hadzabe Bushmen live in this region, as do the Datoga and Mbulu tribes. A visit with the Bushmen is worthwhile and they will graciously show you where and how they live and hunt. They subsist entirely off the bush and by bow hunting. Everything they use is made from local materials, including their bows which are strung with giraffe tendon and their arrows which are coated in lethal poison. Their language resembles that of Kalahari Bushmen tribe (who were featured in the 1980 film ‘The Gods Must Be Crazy’) with clicking noises used.
The Datoga and Mbulu people are pastoralists, like the Maasai people.
After your exploration, you will drive back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

7

DAY 7: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you will continue towards the fertile highlands where wheat and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Along the way we’ll pass through the mist-shrouded rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you might be lucky enough to see baboons, or even leopards and elephants in the dense undergrowth. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will be able to see the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater before traveling onwards to the Serengeti National Park, which you will reach by midday. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania with diverse landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah and mountains.
After an extensive game drive, you will drive to your accommodation where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

8

DAY 8: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

You will spend the whole day exploring the park, its animals and incredible landscapes. The Serengeti is the habitat for an abundance of wildlife, such as impalas, buffalo, crocodiles and hippos, but is more well-known for its great migrating herds of zebras and wildebeest. The animals’ trek is determined by the rainfall and varies from year to year. Apart from the migrating herds, you may see predators, such as leopards, cheetahs and lions.
After your exploration at the park, you will drive back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

9

DAY 9: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CRATER

Early morning after breakfast, we continue with our en-route drive inside the Serengeti National Park before we depart to Ngorongoro crater. When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland and glistening lakes and swamps. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. It is famous for both its geological delights and for being a natural reserve which is home to some of the densest large mammal populations in the whole of the African continent. The drive down the into the Crater is an adventure in itself and when you reach the Crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands.
After Lunch and an extensive game drive inside the crater, we head for our comfort partner lodges in Karatu for dinner and overnight.

10

DAY 10: KARATU TO ARUSHA

You will be collected at your accommodation at the time of your choosing where you will be transferred to Arusha or to the Airport which marks the end of your epic adventure.

We felt always safe and secure. Pickup from the airport and transfer to was perfect. The guide (Gilbert) simply knows everything about the parks and the animals. Especially also about all sorts of birds. He loves his job and he is committed to preserving the beautiful nature of Tanzania. Obed and Gilbert also helped us with any special needs we had. For us this was the very first safari, but they helped us to overcome any fears we had. The jeep is a grand old lady, but perfect for safari. We enjoyed standing in the car, under the hood, safe from the sun, feeling the light breeze and watching for animals. The lodges we stayed in were spatious. beautiful, clean, served good food and helped us relax and prepare for the next day's adventures. We totally recommend!

We had two full days of game drives during which Obeg pointed out all of the game and birds in sight. We we’re able to see plenty of zebras, gnus, water buffaloes, antelope, lions, and birds. We really wanted to spot a leopard, but it was not to be. But we did get to see a python! We’d never seen on in the wild before. This guy was about six meters long.
Obeg was very kind, helpful and attentive the whole time. He also handled my husband’s walker in and out of the safari truck multiple times a day which wasn’t easy.

We were a group of friends that spent a few days with Obed on Safari in Mikumi National Park. Obed was very flexible and helpful at all times. He and the driver explained a lot of things on the tour and tried their best to make us see as many animals as possible. We also visited a Maasai Village and a local village.
We really enjoyed our days with Obed!
If we come back in Tanzania we will definitely contact you again!
Thank you so much for all Obed!

Obag African Safaris is the best of tour Company I saw in Tanzania . I really never see the Company like this. The Guide (Ngunda) is very good , enough experience and full of explainations about the bush .He is strong , chaming and caring person . Also he did what he promised before safari.
Am sure I payed less than I get . I saw all I wished to see , a lot of animals like Big group of Elephant and Lion as I wished.
I will not finish to explain about Obag but for sure this is my best Company and favourate in Tanzania .

What a great experience. We was looked after really well and all of our wants were met. Obed and Moody went the extra mile to make sure we were all happy all of the time. Obed has a lot of knowledge of the Safari and really understood the pace of the day. We went to Selous and Julius Nyerere National Park. Moody's driving skills were great and took us through the bumpy road as smooth as possible. We had a lot of laughs and gained a lot of knowledge with great people. Not only did we learn about Safari, we also learned about Tanzania culture and the way of life.
The river boat cruise along Rafiji River was timed perfectly for sun set. On the game drive we see way more animals than anticipated. We will definitely be using Obag Africa Safari again.

Wild safari was my dream!
First of all, I’d like to say that 2 days adventure is amazing. We saw many kinds of animals from a very close distance.
Secondly, Obed is a nice guy, who loves his job and he does everything for his guests to be satisfied. At the beginning we couldn’t see lions, but Obed did all his best to find them. Which adds him high points. I believe not all tour companies do it. Overall, he is very positive and helpful. We had not a nice experience with accommodation, but Obed was so kind to change it for us. We are very thankful!
In few words - this tour worths it’s money. I definitely recommend it.

We had a very nice 4-day safari with Obag Safaris. Obeg, our guide, picked us up at the cruise port in Dar es Salaam. We had contacted each other on WhatsApp which was good because we had some trouble finding each other at the port. My husband uses a very big sport walker, so we were glad that we were picked up in a van which was driven by the very capable Katcha (sp??). The Mikumi Lodge was about a 6-hour drive away, and we stopped for a pleasant lunch on the way. Mikumi Lodge isn’t as well-appointed as some that we’ve stayed in at Arusha and the Serengeti, but it was very clean and comfortable and staffed with the loveliest people.
